aBOUT ME

I’m James, a professional sports photographer working in a staff position for Danehouse Photography, a position I’ve been in since September 2022. after spending the previous three years as a freelance photographer whilst being trained by world-renowned photographer Alex Livesey.

I began my sports media career in my early teens, after producing online videos about my local club, Stockport County. The videos caught the attention of the club and joined them as a volunteer member of their media team for the next five years, attempting every aspect of sports media in my time there.

In 2017, I started my photography journey by shooting Stockport County on a weekly basis. It was in that same year that I also began covering a local amateur team, West Didsbury AFC, run by a former colleague who allowed me to come onboard and develop new skills shooting their matches every Saturday morning. Eventually, I also added Stockport County Ladies to my list of clubs before also taking on agency work covering various professional football matches from the summer of 2018 for PRiME Media Images before moving to Danehouse the following season.

My photography branches out into sports and disciplines other than football having covered cricket, cycling, ice hockey, motorsport, boxing, gymnastics and even the Crufts dog show in the past.

I’d probably say that I’ve had a number of career highlights thus far, photographing a championship winning season with Stockport County LFC as they won the North West Women’s Regional League title. That same season, Stockport County won the National League North, lifting the trophy on a memorable in Nuneaton before then winning the National League in 2022.

Professionally, my career highlight is definitely the first few weeks of June in 2023. In the space of three weeks, I was fortunate enough to cover five major cup finals across five countries including my first FA Cup Final, my first UEFA Europa Conference and Europa League finals, the UEFA Nations League semifinals and final and my inaugural UEFA Champions League final as Manchester City defeated Inter Milan in Istanbul.
